How would you describe your company to the head of digital from a publishing company? Demibooks provides a publishing platform for interactive books. Demibooks® Composer is the first code-free, affordable way for publishers and self-published authors and illustrators to create interactive books for the iPad, right on the device itself. Founded in 2010, Demibooks is headquartered in Chicago with a development center in Sydney, Australia.
Why would a publisher want to work with you? What's in it for them? Demibooks offers a complete ecosystem to create and distribute rich interactive content for children's book apps on the iPad. For content creation we offer Composer a free app availbale in the App Store. Our Printshop helps to publish the Book App in the App Store. We are also in the process of launching our Reader App (stay tuned) with some great content. Additionally, through our partner EDC we have a 6000+ sales team of independent consultants to promote the contents going door-to-door.
In simple terms, how is your company going to make money? We have combination of revenue lines through revenue share and/or revenue from services to create content and uploading the content to the App store.
Where is your funding coming from? We are currently, funded by Educational Development Corporation (EDC). EDC is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ stock exchange. EDC sells children’s books, including Usborne Books and the Kane/Miller line of international children’s titles through a multi-level sales organization of independent consultants, through 5,000 retail stores and over the Internet. More than 1,500 different titles are available for children of all ages, with periodic new additions.
What date did/will you launch? We first launched the Composer platform to create rich-interactive content in Spetember of 2011. In October, we launched a publishing imprint called InkPad Press. InkPress is a joint venture between Demibooks and Kane Miller, a children's book publisher.

What are your plans to give your company exposure? Who is your target audience? Our target audience would be both self-publishers and more established publishing houses. In fact, we are currently working with a number of pubslihing houses to bring some great content to market. We are continuing our marketing campaign through social media, attendance in trade shows, public speaking, through partnerships with publishing houses, etc. Recently, we have announced partnerships the Kane Miller Books (a publisher of children's books) and EDC a publicly traded children's book distributor. Throgh EDc we also have an army of 6000+ sales consultants who go door-to-door to promote content to end-users.
Your vision for your company in three year's time? We want to be a leading technology provider for creating and distributing rich-interactive content for childrens book apps.
What is your end game? Let's wait and see. This is a new market and as technology evolves and opportunities seems endless.
Three things you've learned from launching a startup? It is super exciting. Tablets have brought amazing new oppotunities that did not exist in the past. The feedback and support we are getting from our user base keeps us motivated everyday. As opportunites seem endless we need to stay focused in achieving our key goals and objectives and not get distracted by the endless opportunies out there.
