I'm really enjoying this piece in Digital Music News. Can we never, ever get into this kind of stuff, please?
In case you'd like a précis: Google is getting a lot of takedown requests. They're having to deal with a big uptick and they're doing it. But everything they take down goes right back up again. In addition, they're also logging the takedown requests at ChillingEffect.org because that's what they believe in. Since the logs include links to the original offending site, you can still find them, faithfully indexed by, erm, Google. Leading to my favourite recursive legal madness for some time:
Takedown requests for the takedown requests.
Yes, folks, this is what happens when you go the 'angry old dude yelling at those pesky filesharing kids' route. You waste a lot of time and energy and go slowly mad.
Can we please choose a different way of dealing with this stuff for publishing? I mean, let's suppose you see a guy sinking in the mire: is your first instinct to jump in so that you can enjoy the experience?
