The iBookstore is now casting a wider net

Is the eBook market reaching maturity in the UK?

Something is happening in the world of publishing as it appears the major publishers are finally reacting to the aggressive pricing of eBooks at Amazon by self published authors and independent publishers. This weeks top 20 only 8 titles prepared to take titles over £1. This is great for readers but a worrying sign for smaller publishers and independent authors who have led the way with pricing on eBooks so far. Karin Slaughter’s eBook exclusive ‘The Unremarkable Heart’ is priced at 44p and publishers Cornerstone is clearly going to make a killing. Read more »

E-book bestseller chart with prices: 13th June 2011

Philip Stone, Charts Expert: Karen Slaughter's direct-to-digital ebook exclusive, The Unremarkable Heart, climbs to the top of this week's eBestseller list thanks to solid Kindle and iBookstore downloads. It has a "digital list price" of 56 pence according to Amazon, who have discounted it by 21% (12p), to just 44p. Apple are selling it somewhere in between the two - at 49p. Benjamin Daniels' Confessions of a GP returns to the Top 10 following a three-week hiatus while Tea Obreht's The Tiger's Wife charts thanks to its recent Orange Prize for Fiction win. Read more »

E-book bestseller chart with prices: 7th June 2011

Philip Stone, charts expert: "Britain's Got Talent" judge Michael McIntyre's memoir, Life and Laughing, second only to Stephen Fry's The Fry Chronicles as the bestselling memoir of 2010, takes top spot in this week's eBestseller list, ahead of Karin Slaughter's The Unremarkable Heart - Random House Group's first direct-to-digitial fiction title. The latter contains the opening chapter of Slaughter's forthcoming Fallen, which hits shelves (both physical and digital) next month. Read more »

How Amazon forces the DRM issue

Two pieces of news from Amazon yesterday - one anticipated, one very surprising. After launching their Romance imprint Montlake it was clear that the company had serious plans to move into regular publishing. E-book bestseller chart with prices 4th May 2011

Philip Stone, charts expert: Michel Faber's The Crimson Petal and the White tops this week's e-book charts thanks to its recent four-part TV adaptation hitting BBC Two. Sales of the print edition of the novel have also been on the up - sales are up five-fold from just a month ago. Read more »
